Ingredients

Chicken filling
  • 3 cup cooked, shredded chicken Use about 3 cups shredded cooked chicken (rotisserie works).
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of celery soup
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.75 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
Biscuit-like topping
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted Melt before using for an even drizzle.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Prep and preheat
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the greased baking dish out on your counter so it’s ready for layering.
Make the filling
  1. Combine the shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup, chicken broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then mix until evenly combined.
  2. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the baking dish so it reaches the corners.
Make the batter and top
  1. Whisk together the self-rising flour and milk until just combined, forming a thin batter.
  2. Pour the batter evenly over the chicken mixture — do not stir.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake and rest
  1. Bake at 400°F for 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden and set.
  2. Let the cobbler cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best texture, keep the batter thin (whisk only until just combined) so it bakes into a biscuit-like layer. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator up to 4 days; freeze in an airtight container up to 2 months. For a lower-sodium option, use low-sodium cream soups and reduce added salt if needed.
